Unified Police Say A One-Year-Old Taylorsville Boy Was Killed After Being Thrown From His Father's Motorcycle

Taylorsville, Utah- August 5, 2012, (SALT TV NETWORK)  Police in Taylorsville say a one-year boy was killed, and his father injured, when the motorcycle they were riding on crashed in an apartment complex parking lot at 4521 South Bridgeside Way.

According to investigators, the child's 48-year-old father, Shannon Moore, was balancing the child on the motorcycle's gas tank and handlebars when he lost control of the bike. Both he and child were thrown from the motorcycle. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Unified Police Detective Levi Hughessay said the motorcycle was traveling at an "excessive rate of speed" at the time of the accident and the entire incident is a painful reminder of just how vulnerable children are when traveling aboard any motorized vehicle, whether it's a car, motorcycle, or ATV. Detective Hughessay went on to say a one-year-old should never be transported by motorcycle regardless of the circumstances.

Police are continuing their investigation. They say prosecutors will screen the case later this week to see if charges will be filed against the father.

He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in fair condition.
