Utah Pulling The Plug On Internet Gambling
The Utah Legislature is taking action against illegal gambling in the state's Internet cafes.
HB40, sponsored by Representative Don Ipson, (R), St. George, moved on to the Senate Tuesday in a House vote of 72-1. The bill seeks to define and ban so-called "fringe gambling" which is often offered to patrons in the form of a sweepstakes.
But as Salt TV Contributor Susan Wood of The Utah League of Cities and Towns explains, these games of chance take a devastating toll on those who can afford it the least.
