A tragic motorcycle accident in Salt Lake City has claimed the life of Assistant Utah Attorney General Peter 'Rocky' Rognlie.
Rognnlie died Tuesday evening after colliding with a car near 700 East and 900 South.
Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff confirmed Rognlie's death Wednesday afternoon.
"Rocky was the perfect nickname for an attorney who gave his all in and outside the courtroom," Shurtleff said. "He was a fierce advocate who handled some of the toughest criminal and civil cases in our office. We will miss him deeply."
Rognlie was a 1983 graduate of the University of Utah's College of Law.
He worked as a prosecutor in several jurisdictions around the state before joining the Utah Attorney Generals office 12 years ago.
Rognlie was known as an impassioned children's advocate and worked as a prosecutor for the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
